Still The Sky

For us city-dwellers there is still the sky, we just look up and there it is. But we easily forget the vastness of the universe and get caught up in our human accoutrements which seem vast and perhaps consumptive of the natural environment.

This exhibition recalibrates the natural/human-made lens through which we, the many, (and too many) people see the world we live in. This is the Big Sky/Little Man show, where sweeping skies above the plains of earth and big environments are tugged on by the many, puny people. Large paintings and photos will cover the walls of the gallery, while miniature housing developments and human figures will set on the floor. Small (less than 6x8 inches) figurative paintings will be interspersed.

‘Still the Sky’ also references the unavoidable artistic fact, that art freezes nature –even film captures it as a ‘still life’, frozen in that format. Only the viewer can make art’s meaning real again, breaking the still life. And this is the perfect combination. Art isolates something and presents it in relation to other things (ideas, colors, space, expressions…), and the viewer churns out new associations, ideas, and feelings.
